Domenico Andrea Campanacci: At the Eurasian Orthopedic Forum we will discuss innovations in the production of endoprostheses and the concept of customized surgery

On June 28, Domenico Andrea Campanacci, Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Department of Medical Sciences of University of Florence, Director of the Orthopedic Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery Division of Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria Careggi, will speak on innovations used in arthroplasty in cases of bone defects and will tell the audience about the progress in orthopedic oncology. Domenico Andrea Campanacci is a participant in the Knee Joint Arthroplasty Section and is going to present his report on the sidelines of the Eurasian Orthopedic Forum.

“Participating in the Forum on behalf of LINK Company, I will present sophisticated types of modular and customized endoprostheses used for bone defects reconstruction in orthopedic surgery. These inventions are intended for orthopedic surgeons and are used in cases of bone tissue deficiency after extensive tumor resection or in complicated clinical cases, such as endoprosthesis revision and post-traumatic complications. Endoprostheses can be modified using a special coating in order to solve specific clinical issues, such as a revision in infectious complications or an allergic reaction to metal,” the Professor says.

Domenico Andrea Campanacci added that the most innovative invention is the customized surgery concept, according to which special sawdust guides and endoprostheses specifically designed for the patient are produced to best suit the patient’s medical needs.

“The main benefits of this approach are reduction in surgery duration, a higher accuracy of surgical intervention in oncologic resection and a high correspondence of implant with the bone,” the Professor says.

At the Eurasian Orthopedic Forum Domenico Andrea Campanacci will share his experience in the endoprosthesis surface modification that is to be used in a specific clinical scenario in order to reduce level of infectious complications. During the section Professor Campanacci will also speak on his experience in combining the modular orthopedic system with massive bone allografts used to obtain a uniform design (allograft-prosthesis composites). At the end of his report the Professor will discuss with the audience the latest achievements in the production of customized endoprostheses.
